Mac App Store Cracked Open for Piracy

The Mac App Store's security has been cracked. This means that, by installing a software called Kickback, you will be able to pirate any applications in the store. However, the crack will not be available until February 2011, according to Dissident:

We don't want to release kickback as soon as the [Mac App] Store gets released. I have a few reasons for that.

Most of the applications that go on the Mac App Store [in the first instance] will be decent, they'll be pretty good. Apple isn't going to put crap on the App Store as soon as it gets released. It'll probably take months for the App Store to actually have a bunch of crappy applications and when we feel that it has a lot of crap in it, we'll probably release Kickback.

So we're not going to release Kickback until well after the store's been established, well after developers have gotten their applications up. We don't want to devalue applications and frustrate developers.

While I don't support piracy, I understand the need to allow people to try apps for free, especially when there's so much crap out there. However, this opens the door to wide piracy, which is not good for anyone, developers and users alike in the long term.

That's why Apple should provide a test mode for all apps. Lite and trial versions don't cut it. It's cumbersome and not universal. Storewide 24-hour testing would be perfect, allowing users to quickly purchase or delete at any time during the trial period.

And they should do the same with iOS.

Well, that didnt take long given it has just been released!

Ezra on the move

Server issues precluded me from posting these up when they happened but my little boy is now mobile!

21/12/2010….he starts turning circles when seated

27 or 28/12/2010….he is now fully mobile (albeit very slow…..)

Damnit….now have to Ezra proof the place!

2011…a new start

Well, this was a rude way to start the year.

Something happened to my server (again) and I lost the database that essentially runs my site. That means I have lost nearly 10 years of memories including the birth of my two kids, random thoughts, projects and comments. I’ve worked for the past two weeks trying to resurrect the db but to no avail. I might be able to go back and re-post a lot of the blog and back date it but that will be a lot of work and it may not work at all.

Still have a bit of work to do on metatemporal.com as my wiki is not connecting but I’m hoping that its a simple job ie less than a couple of days work!!

Hope this is not a sign of the year ahead…..

And so the craziness begins again….

Just came back from an ‘expressions of interest’ meeting at school for the 2011 tour. We have a different itinerary this time round (the tour has been ‘reversed’ so we are in Tokyo last not first) and there is a 3-4 day home stay built into the programme as well!

Will be interesting to see who actually comes on tour this time and hopefully there wont be any issues this time round! (couldnt do the missing luggage thing again!)

Once details are firmed up, I will be updating the look and nature of the site to reflect this!

Distracted in a side shopping area

OK the last place we were to visit today (a castle) was closed (missed by 7 minutes!) so we decided to walk for a while (as the bus ride was quite scary) and we found an amazing shopping ‘block’. This thing must be 2-3 km’s long and had houses, temples, a park in it!!

Temple District, Kyoto

Probably picked the worst day to go out as apparently it’s a Japanese public holiday and it’s a zoo.
Absolutely beautiful architecture and stunning views.
Too many people but lots of people in traditional gear.

Toei Movie Park, Kyoto

So camp, it was cool!
Home of the Power Rangers and other Toei projects, the park was quite good.

Featuring sets from past films, the trademark of the park is its Edo style village and bridge, star of many period pieces.

Saw a Power Rangers Vs Ninja show that was just strange and a ninja show that was pretty cool (esp. the lead character).
Also had the set from Godzilla where he descends on Tokyo from the harbour but no Godzilla merchandise.

On a semi crowded train on the way back to Kyoto.
Locals still giving me a wide berth!
